Dating a fender jazz bass
In my case, the neck serial number dates to 2000 but the actual date stamp on the base of the neck shows April 12, 2001 On the body in the neck cavity, a black-ink "Feb" is visible (rest of date is illegible) Also in this same area a red-ink "Mar 28" is visible (rest of date is illegible) Also seen is what appears to be perhaps N9685.Fender records show that it actually "became a guitar" in July 2001. 10/24/2008Note: it mentions that hot-rod amps built 2002 and later no longer have a date stamp in the amp.It probably also says "Made in Mexico" somewhere in or on the amp, which also indicates it is one of the newer re-issue amps.

Electronic components such as transformers, potentiometers, speakers, and some capacitors are often stamped with a date code, which indicates the manufacturer and the manufacturing date.
I just bought a USA Made, silver faced Fender Hot Rod Deville 410. I have searched and searched and cannot find the manufactured date or just the year at least. Hi Love Your Monster Music, I believe that US made means 2001 or before.
There may be an inspection sticker with a two letter code indicating the date of manufacture.

In my case: * The serial number dates to 2000, * The neck indicates it was made April 12, 2001, *The POT dates to 1996 but It is true that I am more than a little disappointed about this finding and reaffirms my appreciation for such quality instruments as those made by Heritage and Martin (who, unfortunately, do not make electric bass guitars).
